Fresh Goods Sunday - Garbaruk 12-speed cassette 10-52t (Shimano Micro Spline freehub)

Well its about time you the readers of my Blog had some proper bling to look at in Fresh Goods Sunday. I hope this cassette is bling enough for you on a Sunday (or what ever day you read this). When I bought my Trek Procaliber 9.8 it has nearly a full Shimano XT groupset apart from the chainset & bb. Even the cassette is XT which manufacturers tend to downgrade a groupset or two to maximise there profits. The 12 speed groupset works like a dream, very smooth, light and crisp gear changes both up and down the cassette. The rrp of XT is quite enough to pay for a good functional groupset with XTR just having a massive eye watering rrp now a days. I come across this cassette by accident when I was looking through Ebay one day. I had never heard of Garbaruk or owned any of their parts. This is a direct replacement for Shimano 12 speed microspline cassettes. The only difference being is the largest cog is 52t instead of 51t. Reading up on blurb it says Shimano rear mechs will manage with the extra tooth. I ordered it from Bird Cycles up in Consett as the sale price was just under half the rrp and there was limited stock which was selling fast. On the down side it took Royal Mail 5 days transport it 20 odd miles to me! It is a lightweight machined piece of bling when I got it out of the box. It comes with its own lockring and is simple enough to fit if you have the correct bike tools. A few minutes later I had it swapped over and I was spinning around our estate testing it out. I did not have to adjust the limits on the rear cassette or the B tension. I have been using the bike with the cassette fitted on and off since the end of March and have not had any problems to date. The shifting / going up and down the cassette is just as good and smooth as the original XT cassette and my bike is approx 145g lighter now which is close to the £1 per gram saving target. The rrp is the same as an XTR M9100 cassette - £320. I paid considerably less than any discounted XTR cassette I can find on the internet and its lighter and one extra tooth as well. I must admit I cannot feel the extra tooth when climbing really steep climbs. but in theory it should make a very small difference. Totally unsure if it would ever last as long as a Shimano cassette but the miles I do on the bike in a year this is not an issue for me. It also comes in eight different anodised colours if you really wanted some extra bling but the rpp goes even higher.

RRP £320 and I paid £164.59 from Bird Cycles, Consett (Ebay) inc p&p. Discount 49%

Legendary performance - now compatible with Micro-Spline freehub

What's everybody been waiting for - a Garbaruk 12-speed cassette compatible with Shimano Micro-Spline freehub standard - is here. Now you can combine the latest drivetrain technologies on the market with unique performance components made by Garbaruk. Lightweight and rigid design, combined with unique teeth profile allows for silk-smooth shifting and no chaindrops while backpedaling.

The lightest MTB cassette for Micro-Spline freehub on the market

At 349 grams, Garbaruk Micro-Spline-compatible cassette is a no-compromise solution beyond any of the existing competitive products on the market. All the usual ingredients - lowest weight possible, 11 cogs milled out of a single piece of steel and 7075-series aluminium cog with 52 teeth attached to them.
With 520% range, our solution provides the widest gear range from such a lightweight product, which gives you an ability to climb the steepest mountains.

Precisely crafted from aluminium and steel

Producing such lightweight MTB cassette requires precision CNC machining. Largest gear is machined out of 7075-T6 aluminium alloy and anodized in our eye-catching range of 8 colours: black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver, violet. At the same time we mill 11 cassette cogs out of a single hardened steel billet and apply a durable nickel coating to provide maximum longevity.

Smooth shifting and no-compromise compatibility

Our 10-52T 12-speed cassette is engineered in such way that gear ratios are larger at slower speeds and smaller at higher speeds. This allows for smooth shifting at higher speeds and as result - more precise drivetrain operation. You can run our 10-52T cassette for Micro-Spline with any 12-speed chains, however we recommend using Shimano 12-speed chains for perfect shifting quality. Please note that long-cage (SGS) Shimano 12-speed derailleur is required for seamless cassette operation.
