Mainly gravel loop up to the Toon, Metro Centre, Consett n back to the Lambton Worm

After yesterdays trip over to the coast - Roker we had a walk around the Marina and around the coast line to the top end of Seaburn, turned and headed back to the car. It was lovely and quite on the coast with the sun blazing away with a lovely breeze in places.
Today the forecast was sun straight from sunrise at 4.30am in Durham so I planned a route from the Lambton Worm to drop onto the A167 through Birtley, Low Fell, Gateshead and a short loop over on to Newcastle quayside and then back onto the Gateshead side. I then headed up the river to past the Metro Centre, turned left and all the way up the hill to Consett. At the smelter truck I turned left and headed all the way back down to the Lambton Worm. I set off before 6am as the forecast was cooler and it was over cast at Gateshead / Newcastle. The Garmin was around 17 degrees just right for me. The sun did come back out before Consett where the temperature shot up to 22 degrees. As you would expect there was very little traffic on the road section between Birtley and Newcastle. All in 39 miles in 2 hrs 47 mins with 1400ft of climbing. Below a few snaps from the ride and the route map, enjoy and hopefully more soon-
