Part Gravel / Part Tarmac 40 mile local loop on the Specialized Creo SL

First a catch up- no cycling at the weekend. On Saturday we went to the Wolsigham Show and it was rammed packed solid with people, kids, dogs you name it. Far too busy to really enjoy the show tbh. On Sunday we had a spin through to Sedgefield farmers market for some goodies then a walk around Hardwick Park then jobs for the rest of the day.
The North East was the coldest place in the UK last night according to the forecasters but we are having a mini heat wave for two days and I have some time built up at work to use before Friday so what a better way to use some of it up than go out on the bike. Todays loop was a good mix old railway lines and some tarmac, see photo at the bottom of the blog. The lines were quiet early on but got busier near Birtley with loads of dog walkers out and about. The tarmac section was from Birtley to Chester Le Street riverside then along the A167 cycle track back to Neville's Cross to pick up the line back to Broompark. I was just under 3 miles short of 40 miles by the time I got back to the junction so headed off up the line to Stanley Crook way for 1.5 miles then turned and headed back to get the 40 mile mark in. Just under 1400ft of climbing so not too many hills and an ave of  speed of 13.6mph.
Below are few photos from the ride, enjoy and hopefully more soon-
