Well its the Great North Run today and I was up early thinking what I could do today for some exercise. I was going to go out on the road bike but with the Great North Run being on I had a check back through my Garmin account to see when the last time I walked 13.1miles and it was back in 2019, so that gave me an idea. I am not fit enough to run 13.1 miles so a good hike instead.
Into the garage for my hiking boots and I headed off to Bearpark to park up next to the old railway line. The temperature was around 9 degrees and overcast but dry. I headed off up the line towards Lanchester and was soon clocking in the miles and I warmed up nicely. I decided not to do exactly half way as I was not sure my watch battery would last the full route. So I did 6 miles out and 6 miles back. Once I was back at the van the watch was flashing low battery so I turned on my bike Garmin Edge just in case for the remaining 1.10 miles towards Broompark n back. The watch just lasted for the full route. The old railway line was not that busy for a Sunday morning but it was early doors. The temperature did rise to around 14 degrees so was spot on for me. My feet and legs were not too bad and could have gone further to be honest.
All in 13.1miles in 3hrs 45mins with 300ft of climbing & ave heart rate 126 bpm.
