Local road ride up to Pontop Pike / Consett etc - Cannondale Synapse Neo 1

Today looks like the last dry day of the week for the Durham area, the forecast is looking like its nearly solid heavy rain every day for the next five days! So I thought might as well make the most of it and took the road bike out after 6am for an early morning spin. The Garmin was reading 6.9 degrees so I had my 3/4 bib shorts, arm warmers, merino wool ss base layer, ss top and windproof gilet = lovely and warm! The sun came out which made it a little warmer on the way down to Chester Le Street. I soon warmed up on the climb to Stanley / Annfield Plain / Pontop Pike / Consett. Once on the top the temperature shot up to 11 degrees and the sun was blazing away. The forecast was cloudy and overcast so that was a lovely bonus. On the way back down to Lanchester I decided to put the climb in out of the village to Burnhope - The Peth, no problems on the Neo and had a quick sit down next to the old pit wheel on the top opposite the mast where another cyclist pulled up. He had come from Blackhall on the coast and was heading to Whitehaven! 145 miles away. He was stopping overnight and riding back to Blackhall tomorrow = 290 mile round ride. For me it was the back roads to Holmside, Edmondsley, Daisy Hill, Sacriston, Nettlesworth and back home. All in 34 miles, 2hrs 26 mins, 13.9mpg ave with just under 2500ft of climbing. Below are a few snaps, enjoy and hopefully more soon -
