Sunderland Big Bike Ride 2019 36.1 miles

I heard about this event on Sun fm radio whilst driving around the county for the last two weeks and had a look into it. The 5 mile family ride was yesterday and today was the 20 and 35 (36.1) mile rides. It sets off and finishes at the University of Sunderland campus next to the glass centre. I had a look at route had have ridden most of it before but most of the return leg was new from Hetton way. It was a good mix of gravel, mud, tarmac etc. I got lost at Hetton of all places! but soon back on the route again. It was £11 and you got a More Mile T Shirt, goodie bag and medal. The start was very busy but it soon thinned out the more miles we were putting in. All in we finished 2hrs 45 mins with nearly 2000ft of climbing in Mosley bank and the hill out of Hetton Lyons towards the wind turbines past the farm. Jane was first Lady back on the 36 mile route, well done luv, get your feet up now! The route was pretty well signed but if you were totally new to the area you would struggle. There was quite a few heading off all over the place. There was quite a few marshals out as well which were a well sight. It just clouded over and started spitting rain as we crossed the new bridge on the way back. Once back at the finish the sun came back out again. Probably do it again next year tbh.
