A Lovely 8 mile hike around Maiden Castle, Houghall Woods, & Low Shincliffe

Woke up to another frost and the sun blazing away so it was time to dig out the Alt Berg hiking boots again for a hike. We parked up at Low Shincliffe and set away on our hike. It was not that warm to start with but it was sunny. I had a rough route in mind and wanted to go further than the 6 mile route we did a while ago from Shincliffe. We set away up the Trod then down to Durham, along to the old baths bridge, crossed over then followed the river to Maiden Castle, crossed over the road and headed into Houghall woods. We hiked over to the Crem then back to Houghall Woods to come out at the bridge. We then did our last loop around the riverside at Low Shincliffe and back to the van. All in just under 8 miles in 2hrs 25 mins with 600ft of climbing. Below are a few sunny snaps from the hike, enjoy and hopefully more soon-
