Stanhope Common Hike / Walk out New Years Day

I had two lovely quiet days at work between Boxing day and today, New Years day. I have finally managed to get caught up with my work load and managed to get two early finishes for a change.
Last night I was shattered and feel a sleep watching James Bond on the tv. There was no way I was going to see the New Year in but the fireworks did wake me up for a couple of minutes at midnight.
We checked the forecast last night for today and the BBC said it was not looking too good with weather warnings. The Met Office forecast was better with no warnings and some sun. We checked again this morning and the Met had sun nearly all day for Stanhope so me, Jane and Angus set off for our normal loop. It was reading minus -3 degrees in the car going through and the winter sun was blazing away by the time we parked up.
We did the loop with no problems and the conditions were fantastic, not too icy and not too muddy. There was very little wind and not too cold. The sun was fantastic and made for a great New Years Day hike out. We passed / bumped into quite a few other walkers etc and a few roadies out on the bikes on the way home. Once back in Stanhope we had a walk down to the paper shop for some goodies before heading home. The main roads were gritted but the back roads would have been lethal on a bike. Below are quite a few snaps and a couple of short video clips and some fresh goodies and a return!
Hopefully more soon, enjoy-
