Saturday morning spin up the old railway line to Hownsgill & back + weekly catch up.

I woke up early and there was a canny overnight frost, down to minus 2 degrees. Time to get the bikes out for a spin and clear the old lungs out. Me and Angus headed over to Bearpark to join on to the old railway line and turned right and headed up to Consett through Langley Park and Lanchester. The line has been resurfaced from Hurbeck Cottages (I think that is what they are called) past the farm drive and half way up the next stretch before you turn left and down the steep hill towards Knitsley farm shop. The track is nice and wide again but is like an oceans way and very bumpy. From there it was up to the truck junction, turned left and up to the viaduct before turning and heading back to Hownsgill tea rooms for a cuppa. The tea rooms was packed and we got the last table, food and drink is spot on but its always far too hot inside and when you go back out you freeze. Back down the line and retraced out route back home. All in just under 31 miles.

Weekly catch up = Monday was a complete wash out with very heavy drizzle the whole entire day. Tuesday was not much better but it did dry up later on so got a 5k run in. Wednesday was revision time for an interview the next day. Thursday was a 1hr 40min walk. Friday still very damp, cold, overcast and just plain depressing so washed the van and swept up two large bags of leaves from the front of the house and got caught up with some house jobs. Never seen the sun once this week, hopefully next week will be less depressing on the weather front and get some more miles in.
