Bank Holiday hike in Weardale

Bank holiday Monday and the sun was forecast so time to get the walking boots out and go for a hike around Weardale. We parked up at Durham Dales Centre (which was closed but the car park is always open) at Stanhope and headed off up through the old quarry and on to the open moor. Crossed the moor with loads of icy puddles / tracks then down through the very muddy wood following the stream to come back out in Stanhope. Then it was down to the train station (which was closed) then along the riverside to the ford where the stepping stones were still visible so me and Angus crossed over and back. Then a walk back up in to the town to call in past the paper shop for some goodies as the chippy was closed. All in just under 6 miles in the non stop blazing sunshine. We had a brew in the back of the van and sat the in the sun and had our dinner before diving back home over the tops via Tow Law where the snow had melted.
Enjoy the pics below and hopefully more soon -
