Fesh Goods Sunday - Surly Dirt Wizard 29 x 3+" 120tpi tyres

Well this tyre has been in the planning / testing / production / distribution circle for many years but ID have finally got stock of the 120tpi, folding version. I have used the Surly Knard without any major problems apart from when you hit wet/sticky mud. Then I bought some Maxxis Chronicles which are a half way Spring/Autumn/Winter tyre. When these hit the UK shores I had to get a pair ordered ready for the wetter Autumn / Winter months of riding on the Krampgrease.
The tread is very similar to the 26" version which I also have but they come up smaller than the Knard tyre which is disappointing but does allow for a little more mud clearance on frame. As you can see in the photos below it is narrower & has a smaller overall dia then the Knard. The rrp is a staggering £74.99 each but Westys did the pair for £122 inc next day delivery.
Here is the manufacturers blurb -
"A 29" version of the aggressive, trail gobbling, traction- and control-focused Dirt Wizard tread. Dirt Wizard tires feature bevelled leading edge dual row knobs in the centre and well-spaced, siped edge knobs to dig into loose corners. Designed to be run on 50mm rims, the tires are tall and wide, providing next-level traction and cushioning. The casings have been designed to be responsive yet supportive, even in the heavier 60tpi version. Minimum rim size for these bad boys is 35mm.
ETRTO: 622mm
Casing: 120tpi with Kevlar bead (TBD)
60tpi wire bead (TBD)"

I have fitted the tyre to the rear to check for clearance but have not used them yet. Reports to follow later in the year.
