Sunday ride down to the C2C to Roker & back

Jane wanted to go out another bike ride and to a different place so we headed over the C2C line at Lambton Worm, Chester Le Street and down to Sunderland. I warned her that there is not that many good views until you hot the coast and expect plenty glass / dog poo. As we neared Sunderland the glass along the track was the worst I have ever seen in the many years of cycling along the C2C. The track is also giving way to the bank side all along the riverside stretch with big cracks forming in many places. We were going to stop at the Glass Centre for a cuppa but it was not open so headed for the cafĂ© on the corner of the road at Roker and we were the only people in the place. Not sure if the prices have gone up but it was pricey! We headed down to the sea front and past the two new cafes and one called Fautso where there must have 20+ bikes parked up outside. Now we know where to go on our next ride to Sunderland. On the way back there was a massive group of riders heading for the coast which caused a few problems as over half of them were on roads bikes with skinny tyres trying to ride through rough stoney / muddy single track sections through the woods. All in a canny ride but it was cool and a head wind back!
Below are a few snaps, enjoy and hopefully more soon -

Saturday morning ride around Durham / Maiden Castle

Angus was starting work at 11am and I had to go through to Hetton for the same time so we decided to have a spin down to Durham, around the river banks then around Maiden Castle / the trod and back home. It was a good mix of weather from heavy misty drizzle, some sun, cloud/overcast and a max of 9.5 degrees! The far river bank track is back open now after been closed for many years opposite the band stand and they have laid new tarmac along the whole stretch. The weather has turned in County Durham now not had any real sun / high temperatures this week. I think it time to start looking to swapping over onto winter tyres on the bikes.
Below are a few photos from ride, enjoy and hopefully more soon -

they have not closed this stretch yet

NECCL RD1 Hetton Lyons Country Park

What a cracking event to start the Super Saturday Series @ Hetton Lyons Country Park. There was plenty of eager riders on the start line to do battle over the grounds of the Country Park. Here is a link to some PHOTOS from MBE. RD 2 is at Bedlington by Barnesbury CC - Geoff Turner next Saturday.
