Sunday morning bimble around Durham, Maiden Castle & Houghall Woods

With the forecasted rain all day starting around 10am I was up and out early'ish to miss it. I decided to take the Trek Marlin+ e hardtail mtb out for a blast. I have not done my Durham, Maiden Castle, Houghall, The Trod loop for a while so I decided on this loop as it is mostly sheltered from the strong freezing cold wind. Normally when I do this loop early on a Sunday morning I never hardly see a sole but every Tom, Dick and Harry was out early this morning. All the tracks and trails were busy with loads of slowing down and speeding back up again. There are still loads of trees down in Houghall woods from the last storm, not to mention the tracks are past ankle deep in clarts. It is all part of the fun really and enjoyed the ride apart from the 30 mph freezing cold wind. On the way back I come through The Sands and The Carrs. All in 17 miles on the nose in 1hr 27mins with just under a 1000ft of climbing. Yes I just missed the rain, it started just as I come back into the house, missed it by less than a minute! No sun again as we had it all yesterday when we were walking around The Toon (Newcastle Upon Tyne) shopping! Enjoy the few snaps below and hopefully more soon-
