Sunny and dusty gravel ride around County Durham's old railway lines

 

Another sunny morning so dragged my lazy arse out for a local loop taking in two of Co Durham's old railway lines and two interlinking road sections. Again still no rain so everything is bone dry, rock hard and dusty. This will change from today as it is forecast rain for next five days. Nothing to report reslly, lines were mainly quiet and the line from Bishop to Spenny is massively overgrown on both sides and needs a good cut back and scrape the tarmac track, come on Durham County Council. The roads are lovely and quiet with the schools being off and people taking holidays. The bike is going well apart from one set of squeaking disc pads I put in which need sorting. Below are a few snaps from the loop, all in 24 miles in 1hr 51mins with nearly 900ft of climbing, enjoy and hopefully more soon- 

Steady spin down the C2C to Sunderland Glass Centre n back

 

Back out again after yesterdays afternoon hospital visit. The sun was in and out but felt warm in the shelter from the wind. It was a simple out n back route again taking it very steady. I joined onto the old C2C at South Pelaw / Lambton Worm and headed down to Sunderland. Once ta the Glass Centre I turned and headed back up the climb to Chester Le Street. Again with no rain the line was bone dry and dusty on the non tarmac sections. There was loads more broken glass today and the dog poo outside the glass centre was unreal. I thought it was getting better down that way but is back to normal. All in just over 24 miles in 1hr 50mins with 950ft of climbing. Back out getting a few steady dusty miles on the S-Works Creo 2

 

Well I am back out again but not for long. After returning to work full time and not feeling the best I have not been out on the bike for just over two weeks now. We still have had very little rain and the lines and grass etc are all bone dry, dusty and rock hard. I opted for a short steady out n back spin to Consett to call in past the bike shop up there to see Sean Scotney. It has been too long since I have popped in to say hello etc and catch up. On the way out Big AL was going in so had a catch up with him as well. I did the road loop on the way back down to Lanchester to mix it up. Nothing daft as I cannot afford to fall off and have any broken bones etc. Second surgery is coming up very soon. There was quite a few others out enjoying the summer holiday break with the littleun's. All in just over 20 miles in 1hr 30min with 1000ft of climbing.
