This is part 2 of a series of Fresh Goods Sunday on my new wheels sets for my Specialized Creo 2.
This week covers the cassettes. The original cassette on the bike was a Sram PG1210 12 speed 10-50t. This is not a XG cassette body and can be fitted to a Shimano freehub. I did not weight it but it felt like a bag of sugar.
I ordered the Hunt wheels with a Sram freehub so upgraded the cassette to a Eagle XG-1295 with the same teeth ratio 10-50t. Sram high end cassettes have always been a thing of beauty in my eyes and have always worked perfect in the past. Fitting is simple enough and I always use some copper slip grease on the threads on the cassette and freehub body. I did not need to use the spacer the wheelset come with. I have used the first cassette for round about a year now and I have never had any problems. I have spent some time cleaning out the gaps between the cogs when the grim builds up, give it a degrease and and then and that's about it.
On the down side the rrp, Sram's high end cassettes are just eye watering expensive. If its the only bike you own and wear cassettes out quickly it will be a very expensive maintenance item. I tend not to wear cassettes out so these will probably last me for the time of bike!
