It was NECCL's Rd6 @ Gypsies Green, South Shields and i always like a ride through to the coast. There was a slight overnight frost but had gone by the time i left on my Beargrease. It was going to be a steady away ride taking a few photos along the way but by the time i hit Rocker time was getting on and still had a few more miles to go. Luckly there was a tail windish for the last leg up the coast.
Last year NECCL brought CX racing to the outdoor velodrome and was a great hit. Whats makes the venue is it has all types of terrain inc steps, steep climbs, off camber corners, sand, tarmac etc, the soil is sand based so dosent suffer from constant rain and holds up really well under tyre (ie dosent turn into a complete mud bath). Last years race organiser - Andrew B (yes he was the one dressed up as Santa) has passed the batten over Richard this year from Cramlington cycling club and with his helpers organised a great event. Its also nice to see local bike shops support local grass roots events and Msteel cycles came along and displayed a few CX bikes and donated soem prize goodies for the kids races. The racing started at midday with clear skies and a stiff breeze but not the gale force conditions from 2012. MBE has set up two gallerys of photos from the days action here and here there are more photos from spectators on NECCL Facebook page. Below are some photos of my ride through and the event.
