I was working in upper Weardale today and the forecast was for wall to wall sunshine with a high temperature so I decided to take half a days holiday. I had my Cannondale Neo Synapse in the back of the van funnily enough so went for a ride. I dropped back to Stanhope and parked up where I started my loop. I took the back roads to Lanehead then over to the border into Northumberland to Allenheads. By now my legs were on fire with the 20+mph headwind all the way out. At the crossroads I turned right and up another hill to cross the border again back into Co Durham and down the massive long hill to Rookhope. Once through the village I picked up the single lane on the left up the back road and over the moor followed by another very fact descent back down in to Stanhope. The motor bikes also had the same idea and there was loads of them on the roads going over to Teesdale and up to Alston etc. All in just under 24 miles in 1hr 43mins with 2700ft of climbing. Below are a few sunny snaps from the loop, the route map and a short video clip, enjoy and hopefully more soon-
