Fresh Goods Sunday - Shimano DURA ACE / XTR RT-MT900 Disc Rotor Ice-Tech FREEZA (160mm Centrelock)

Following on from my series of Fresh Goods Sundays this week is the disc brake rotors. If you follow my Blog you will know I always run Shimano disc brakes on all of my bikes but when I bought the Creo 2 it had a Sram groupset. The stock Sram Apex brakes were crap to say the least, coming from years of Shimano I was going to bin them at one point but when I fitted my Hunt wheels I swapped onto some older Dura Ace / XTR rotors I had and swapped out the pads, more on these in an upcoming Fresh Goods Sunday. What a transformation that made, I actually had some braking power and could stop the bike. I have used Shimano rotors for many years now and never had any problems with them but they do tend to be higher range models such as Dura Ace, Ultegra, XTR and XT. For twenty quid each you cannot go wrong with these, the quality is there and have not distorted with heat etc. Centre lock version is easy to fit and only takes seconds.

First purchase - RRP £59.99 and I paid £54.49 from Merlin Cycles in 48hr p&p - (2022)
Second Purchase - RRP £59.99 and I paid £39.99 from Certini Cycles inc 48hr p&p - (2025)

Manufacturers Blurb -

  • XTR RT-MT900 Ice Tech rotors providing consistent braking performance through energy control, using revolutionary stainless steel / alloy 3-layer sandwich construction that manages heat while riding
  • The clad steel / alloy / steel rotor construction allows heat generated from braking to radiate quickly through the aluminium core achieving surface temperature drops of around 50 deg C. When used with Ice Tech pads surface temperatures can drop from around 400 to 300 deg C, this provides great improvements in performance all round
  • FREEZA rotors allow the alloy core to extend out from the braking surface as a fin to providing added cooling
  • Ice Tech rotors achieve long pad life, less noise and less fade due to improved heat dispersion
  • Rotors are durable lightweight and rigid, using the proven Shimano Center Lock system giving increased strength and security with an easy set-up
  • Precision cut braking surface improves pad clearing in muddy conditions while aiding cooling under high load
  • Large alloy spider is a highly rigid and lightweight support for the rotor surface
  • Super polished braking surface gives excellent braking performance
