I have been having problems with my Garmin heart rate monitor strap for the last few weeks. It was not sending a reading to the Garmin. I changed the battery and still the same. I washed the strap and still the same so had to buy a new one. I cannot complain as my previous strap was bought in April 2014 so has lasted seven years. I bought it from Wiggle for £35. The strap has changed design over the years but at the end of the day does the same thing. There is one thing for sure the rrp has gone through the roof, £60 it a lot of money for a mass produced strap. Even shopping around the cheapest was around £55 but I had a £20 Halfords voucher to use and they put it through the till making the strap the same price I paid seven years ago, win win. It was easy to set up and adjust. I have sued it on my last few bike rides and this mornings hike and had no problems. It is comfortable enough on your body and cannot really feel that you have it on after a while. Once the strap is adjusted to the correct length and synced with the Garmin there is nothing to do apart from keeping the strap clean and change the battery every now and then.
