Fresh Goods Sunday - Assos Mille GT LS Jersey Spring Fall, Black Series

 

Yes more Asos clothing! I just wore this long sleeved jersey again today under my jacket as it was rather damp but warm in Hamsterley Forest this morning. It has got to be the thinnest / breathable long sleeved jersey I have ever owned. It is by no means a winter thickness jersey, well not for the typical North of England weather we get. It is ok on warmer days with a thicker windproof gilet or under a full jacket. There is very little warmth or protection when worn on its own. To be honest its more like a long sleeved summer jersey. I have worn it for quite a few rides since buying it but as the weather will get colder it will have to back into the cupboard until Spring 2023. As ever the quality and fell of the materials is top notch and cannot fault the top in anyway when wore in the correct temperature / weather conditions / layering system. it has a full length smooth zip and three rear pockets. It washes well and dries very quickly. As ever with Assos the rrp is eye watering and cannot see how they can justify the asking price regardless how good the top is. I got some discount, but it is still top end price for a long sleeved top in my eyes.

Hamsterley Forest 10k Trail Run (not by me!)

 

This was a last minute decision by Angus to enter the 10k trail run at Hamsterely Forest. Not cheap, just under £25 but it was a fully marked, marshalled route, feed station, first aid and a medal / goodie bag at the end and free carparking for 3 hours. It was an early start, he picked me up and my mtb up at 7.15am, it was pitch black and misty but dry. I thought the midges would have gone by now but they were out in force at the visitor centres end. The race started ta 9am with the 10k and 5k all setting off together. It was a flattish route on the way out with a big climb in the middle then a lumpy start on the return leg but flat at the end. Angus did well apart from nearly seeing his two Weetabix he had for breakfast half way up the big climb! I counted him through and should have got 14th place. I plodded around on my new Trek Procaliber 9.8 and took some photos - see below and hopefully more soon-

I did some more fettling after yesterrdays first ride- I have cut the bars down so they are less cowhorn width, fitted some Bontrager grips and cut down the lockout cable to the fork by 5". I also got the Garmin mounted on the stem with an older type mount base and large rubber bands. I dropped the air pressure in both tyres by 5-10 psi and the fork by 20psi. 

So shakedown ride no2 went well, the fork is a lot softer but might still drop the pressure a little further. The brake levers need tiling up slightly after I moved them in wards yesterday to cut the bars down. Apart from that the bike is running sweet as a nut. It was a very simple out n back local ride from Meadowfield to Bishop along the old railway line. The line was mainly dry and mud / puddle free considering we had overnight rain yet again. It was also lovely and quiet with just a few others out n about. As for the weather well it was overcast / cloudy with some wind but half way back the sun came out briefly but the wind also picked up and started spitting rain. All in just 15.5 miles with less than 400ft of climbing. Below are a few snaps from the ride, enjoy and hopefully more soon -
