Fresh Goods Sunday - Park Tool - SD-3 Flat Blade Screwdriver

I have been using Park Tool screwdrivers for a few years now and they have good quality hard steel blade / tips. I also like the feel and shape of the handle in your palm. As you can see in the photos below my Philips 2 is starting to show some wear on the handle with the grippy material around the logo starting to lift / peel away. This does not affect the performance of the screwdriver but is the only negative thing I have discovered. They are good value for money and come with several different tips - Phillips 0 & 2 & Flat 3mm & 6mm. You can also buy them as a set.

Brighter but still cold walk into Durham & back

Once back in from my ride I had a shower and change into my hiking clothes followed by some brekkie, then me and Jane had a walk down to Durham. This time I could see what I had been riding over in the dark. Just as well I was riding in the dark as I think I would have gone even slower in the daylight! It was still cold and overcast but a lovely freezing cold wind in the lungs wakes you up a treat, not that I needed wakening up! Durham was all quiet and we got all our jobs done that we wanted to get done. After that we had a walk up to the Cathedral for a cuppa and cake then back around the riverside before heading home. By the time we left, Durham had picked up a little but still quiet once you got out of the market place area. All in we covered 5.25 miles.

Dark, cold, icy Saturday Morning ride on the Salsa Beargrease

I was up out early this morning for a ride on the Salsa carbon Beargrease. It was cold and the further I went and the longer I was out it got colder and colder. The Garmin reached minus -4.7 degrees before I got back home and my water bottle was frozen. There was not nearly as much snow in Durham city centre than what there was at home so some of the tracks / paths were clean'ish in places. The Lupine Betty was working a treat and light up the way but in daylight (see next blog) I could see what I had been riding on! I hate it when the snow gets compacted down, half melted, refroze and turns out like polished wet glass / ice that you can not even stand up on. I had a few spins on the back wheel and took every corner steady but come a cropper on the hill up to Frankland farm where the full width of the track was an inch thick of solid ice for approx 10ft. I had to walk in the ditch/bushes at the side whilst pushing the bike up hill. All in just over 12 miles so not too bad for an icy loop around Durham. I only seen 3 people the whole time I was out and it was still pitch black when I got back in!
