Yesterday the forecast for the NE side was terrible with lashing rain and 40+mph winds so we decided to cross the border and headed over to Penrith for the morning. It was lovely and sunny in Penrith with very little wind. The shops that were open were lovely and quiet with no queuing so we got a load of shopping done and spent a small fortune in Cranstons food hall. On the way back we stopped at Langwathby for dinner as it was looking very dark on the top of Hartside! After dinner by the time we got to the top of Harstide the wind was that strong it had blew the rain away! but once through Alston and into Weardale it was lashing down.
Today again woke to lashing rain but dried up after 11am so me and Jane went to the Crem then headed off for a 4.5 mile wet, cold and muddy hike around the woods and Maiden Castle. Houghall café was open for takeaway and the place was rammed. All the car parks were full and cars parked on the road, crazy stuff. Below are a few snaps from the hike -
I have subscribed to Singletrack magazine again as there are loads of 50% off vouchers at the mo. I have got every copy from 1 to 100 then unsubscribed after that. I will keep it going for a year and make a decision in a years time as to if I continue or cancel. I have also started reading my new copy of Lost Lanes North, cracking guide book and worth every penny.
