Out on the local gravel in the sun & wind to Hownsgill cafe

The weather has been shocking this week apart from a few hours of sunshine on Tuesday afternoon and Friday for a few hours. It was time to sling my leg over the saddle and get a few miles in. I joined onto the old railway line at Langley Park then headed up to Consett in a 30mph gusting headwind. By the time I got to Consett I was feeling rough so I turned left and over the viaduct but the wind was even worse so I turned and headed back down. I was going to call in past Knitsley for a sausage sandwich but when I was passing Hownsgill cafe I called in past to see if they were open. The car park was full so that was a good sign. There was no tables left in the cafe but they have two timber summer houses outside so sat in one of them in the sun enjoying the view whilst having my sausage butty and hot chocolate. The rain was quite heavy up at Consett but by the time I got down to Lanchester it had stopped. It was a canny ride but hard going, all in just over 20 miles in 1hr 39mins with 900ft of climbing. Below are a few snaps from the ride and a short video clip, enjoy and hopefully more soon -
