Sunday morning Spring ride up to Newcastle Quayside

What a fantastic Spring day it is today here in County Durham. The sun was up and out early and has never stopped shinning. This morning I decided to dig out my bling road bike for its first outing of the year and to try out the new USE seat post and Mavic rear tyre. Angus also came along and he took the Norco Di2 Search. It was a steady spin up the cycle lane to Chester le Street then the onto the A167 all the way to Gateshead then dropping down to the Baltic / Sage and Onion (as I call it). We called in past the Angel of the North for some quick snaps on the way. When we reached the river Tyne we then crossed over and headed up to The Hub CafĂ© for a cuppa and cake but the queue was massive so headed back the same way as we came. God the roads are a right old mess heading out of Chester Le Street, all the way through Birtley, Low Fell and Gateshead. Time the council filled the pot holes and did some resurfacing. We did an extra loop up the new cycle track from Pity Me roundabout to Sniperley roundabout. They have made a cracking job but it has took a very long time to do. All in 30 miles in the beautiful sun but Angus did not enjoy the 16 miles homeward bound with the head wind!
Once back it was time to was the car, van, bikes, clean the windows inside & out etc. Below are a few snaps from the ride, enjoy and hopefully more soon.

PS - got an email from Westys yesterday saying the Cannondale Slate was ready for collection - new rear Rival 1 long cage rear mech. New Sram slick shift inner & outer cable. Rear hub serviced and rear skewer adjusted. New Sram chain fitted. New BB30 bearings fitted. Spoke in rear wheel tightened and trued and by all accounts its back to full working order and ready for some miles.
