Some road training - crossing over the border into Cumbria

Seond check up today and they are happy with healing/stiches/surgery so signed off fit - that is a joke, have they seen me trying to ride up a hill on bike recently. To celebrate i decided to get a road ride in up through Weardale, cross the border into Cumbria and back again. I normally park up at Wolsingham and ride through to Alston but parked at Frosterley and did not manage to get to Alston. The weather was against me today, well it was on the way back. The ride towards Alston was wet, overcast and cold but with a tailwind. When i reached Cowshill it was dense fog and could not see more than 20-30ft in front. The fog lifted slightly when i dropped down into Nenthead but could feel i had a massive tailwind. Once i reached The Coach House, Nenthall that was enough. I could not face the open moor section over and into Alston. I turned and that was it, massive headwind nearly all the way back. The climb out of Nenthead was a killer, down to 4 degress, drizzle, dense fog and could not see a thing (not sure if that was a good thing as i could not see how far it was to the top of the climb). Once i dropped down into Wearhead the fog cleared up and the drizzle stopped but still cold and overcast. Back to Frosterley for some scran then a steady drive home via Tow Law etc.
Could take take any views of the Dales as you could not see them so took some of the village signs that i passed through on my ride -

Top the biggest climb

Todays turning point

more like 25% with the strong headwind

Fog just starting to lift, you can just see some of Weardale in the background

Not far now - thank god

and back to the starting point

The visibility was that poor i had my front/rear lights on all the time inc helmet led's

Time for overshoes as well

Bright lenses today but still very dark
